the norwegian search engine, alltheweb has emerged to challenge the throne held by google. both of them returned different results for the same keyword searches.
it will take two years to save the world, if the world economy is willing take a break from pursuing wealth for that duration.
instead of just boycotting copy-protected (crippled on computer) cds, california consumers are suing record companies for selling “defective” cds. i feel lucky that those cds listed as copy protected ones are not sold in singapore yet though it will be something imminent.
msnbc has an interesting article on the moral dilemma of system administrators when information are stolen. a growing number of online retailers maintain databases of customer profiles with credit card information. returning customers can make future purchases easily. are system administrators obliged to inform credit card owners that their numbers were stolen, risking job lost or quietly fix the problem and protect the reputation of their employers?
if you decide to “dissappear”, the latest issue of wired magazine published a cheat sheet on how to disappear.
if you’re a techie geek or science buff, you might have amused yourself with hollywood’s version of science and physics. the insultingly stupid movie physics has good list of them with detailed explanation. they missed out the common mistake of space travel physics. humans worked hard to defy gravity on earth and yet they managed to create artificial gravity on non-rotating space vessel. it could have been a blessing in disguise. imagine everyone making matrix moves in duels while in space.

i frequently hear and read remarks about the lack of beautiful sunsets in asia. these remarks were further supported by evidence seen in foreign countries, especially those far from the equatorial line. here’s a rebuttal photo. we do have pretty sunset (and sunrise) to view and admire, in our own homes, anywhere in the world, at the right moment with the right weather. all we need to do is take a moment off our busy lives and watch the beauty of nature.

entertainment weekly reports on the foresight that george lucas had for yoda on his martial arts capability. the computer graphics people for episode were initially resisting the idea of creating the duel between yoda and count dooku (they probably had nightmares of jar jar binks). their minds were quickly changed when that scene became the most memorable one for the movie and transformed yoda into a hero.
one of the most unique (and eccentric) way of keep weblog is found in the daily photo project. it is not just any photo, but photo of himself, every single day, from 1998. i’m very impressed by his dedication and effort.
